Do you see the RFC/RFT in the subject? That means “Request for Comment/Request
for Testing”. That patch is far from being “official”. In addition, this is the
3rd version, which indicates some resistance from the community or some flaws in
the approach. As it is proposed for the mainline kernel, there will be no need
for it to be backported to openSUSE. If and when it is accepted, then it will be
in whatever version of oS that uses that kernel.
If you want to play with it, get the 2.6.37-rc2 source from kernel.org, apply
that patch, and build your own kernel.
One thing I forgot to add. If you look at the patch, the header section ends
with “Signed-off-by: Mike Galbraith <efault@gmx.de>”. If it were intended to be
backported to earlier kernels, it would also have a “Cc: Stable” entry. With
that missing, the chances of it ever being installed in kernel 2.6.34 as use3d
by 11.3 are small.
semit-OT: this patch is extremely promising, the benchmarks prove it to be a huge step forward. Hope the .37-Kernel will be used in openSUSE 11.4.
But its promised only in .38 kernel, so if it will not be backported we should wait for next version of suse, or do it own self.
It why I asked here. May be we someone from Novell will comment it out…
