password protect screen saver login

V11.3

I can’t login after the password-protect-screen-saver comes on during a download.

The screen is black, the cursor arrow moves with the mouse, but no login window.

I have no idea what is wrong but it seems to correlate with this combination.

I power-off and on to fix it, very annoying.

So turn that function off

I never use screensavers and mostly disable powersaving altogether

You should say what desktop you are using, there are several, and several
screen savers.

Ctrl-Alt-F1. Login, “ps afxu | grep USERNAME | less -S”, find out the
screen saver, kill it with “kill PID” or “killall APPNAME”.

At worst, login as root (text mode), init 3, back to init 5.
