Partition...

Hey
I`m new to Linux, and hope nobody will be to bored about a question probably asked many times…
I have partitioned my harddisk in two, one for win, and one 30 gb free for Linux. How do I guide Linux to be installed on the 30 gb partition…?

Thanks
Kenneth

Install windows first

Then
Boot from the suse dvd

assuming the hd is identified like this : sda

windows will be on sda1

so either let the suse partitioner use sda2 and allow it use default values

or manually edit sda2

you will want it like this

swap (allow 1GB)
/ (root allow 10GB)
/home (all the rest)

create a 10GB / partition first - will be primary

use all the rest to make a extended partition and then create swap and /home within that

Thank you for your reply…It wasnt that easy though..I had aruond 7 sdas, and my wanted partition had the number tree or four…
I couldnt really figure out how to let the Suse partitioner use the wanted sda, so I just took the easy way out, and used the suggested settings. It worked, although it left very little space for my Windows. Is there a good walk through manual in here, that can explain my problem..? Anyways -I have a dual boot now, and I´m looking forward to explore my new installatin. Already, I have detected some problems -I cant print, and I can`t get online…To essential things…But I´m looking forward to solve the problems -there is probably a lot of help to find on this forum.
Do you know why I could only use the text based installer…?

Best regards
Kenneth
