I have what I think is a rather peculiar problem. Network manager looks like everything is right, but in Firefox or any other browser I can only access very few websites (like google or gmail) but anything else hangs on and eventually times out. I also can’t update openSuse (can’t connect to the repositories) or access the internet in any other way.

Please help me if you can, its the only thing that keeps me from making the leap to Linux, and and I really love openSuse.

I have a cable connection through a US robotics usr8000 router (not very linux-friendly) and a sis196 card (Fujitsu Sieens Esprimo Mobile v5535 - also not very linux-friendly) on a openSuse 11.1 fresh install.

I will be glad to give any more information may need.

Try to disable ipv6 in YaST, Network Devices. Then restart.

I tried that before and I just tried again just to be sure. That changes nothing in my connection.

Can you ping some websites either your “local” ones and google.com and other that comes to your mind? We need to rule out the ISP from that.

Open konsole and type"
ping whatever-website.com

Although I couldn’t ping ibm.com, it’s one of the few sites I can access through firefox. Is this strange?

Hmm, that’s weird, but shows that everything from the operating system side is ok. Maybe your ISP ? DNS server?

It works perfectly in windows vista. Does anyone have any idea on how to correct this?
