Parallel port in opensuse 11.2 64-bit does not work.

I found several threads on this issue and tried setting options parport_pc io=0xec00 IRQ: 19 in /etc/modprobe.d/00-system.conf.
Neither cups or yast finds the printer.
Hardware probing gives this:

In my opinion there should be a printer at /dev/lp0 but nothing prints when sending data
Printer and adapter works in Win 7 64-bit. Win driver installed as LPT3.
Thanks in advance.

See if this thread helps. In particular, it mentions that the parallel port BIOS config needs to be set to ECP first.

Just a thought:
My new Computer last year did not come with a parallel port. I bought a USB to Parallel printer cable to make use of my old Hp 4P. This was detected without problem by openSUSE 11.0 so I would imagine that 11.2 works with it as well. IIRC the cable was something like $13-USD.

That was a very quick replay. Thanks a lot.
I went back to correct what I set in /etc/modprobe.d/00-system.conf it should be “parport_pc io=0xec00 irq=19”
I also found this in dmesg:

6.007035] parport0: PC-style at 0xec00, irq 11 [PCSPP]
6.026031] parport0: Printer, Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet 6L
6.068311] ppdev: user-space parallel port driver

BIOS sets port to ECP
I also wonder what the io-address 0xe880 is and /dev/char/6:0

Never expected after 25 years to have problems with a simple HP-printer at a parallel port. Thanks again for helping me.

Did you try a Suse 11.1 live cd. My HP-Laserjet 4L with a PCI parallel port adapter works perfect with Suse 11.1 or ubuntu 9.04 but with Suse 11.2 or ubuntu 9.10 it only prints garbage without stopping. Booting with windows xp or 7 the printer is visible at LPt3 too. So far I have no solution and still hope for help on a different thread.
