par2 and SABnzbd

Hi All,
I’m very new to using Opensuse, or any flavour of Linux, however I’ve managed to get it to do almost all the things I want except repair files I’ve downloaded from newsgroups.

I’m using Opensuse 10.3 in VMWare Workstation on Windows XP (owing to wifes dependency on Windows) I’ve managed to set up and run the Python based Newsreader SABnzbd but I cannot figure out how to install a suitable Par2 application that SABnzbd can use to repair my downloads.

Has anyone successfully set this up? Any help would be much appreciated. Also apologies if this is not the right forum for this question but I looked through all of them and this seemed the most appropriate.

I don’t know if it will work in VMWare Workstation, but search for par2 in the 1-click install on the Suse website.
I’ve never used VMWare before.

good luck.

you’ll need the ‘par2cmdline’ client from

http://parchive.sourceforge.net/#clients

Granted, I’ve always grabbed the sources and compiled it myself, but they do
offer precompiled binaries if you need them.

L R Nix

it’s also in the 1-click install.
but it’s only available for Suse10.3.
if you’re using KDE, you can try Par2GUI, an graphical frontend for par2cmdline. see kdeapps.org.
you’ll need kommander and kdialog from the Suse repos to use Par2GUI.

The windows program QuickPar 0.9.1 also runs well under Wine.
