Packagekit blocking updates

I am getting the following when I try to update via zypper up.

som@localhost:~> sudo zypper up
[sudo] password for root:
PackageKit is blocking zypper. This happens if you have an updater applet or
other software management application using PackageKit running.
We can ask PackageKit to interrupt the current action as soon as possible, but
it depends on PackageKit how fast it will respond to this request.

PackageKit is still running (probably busy).

System management is locked by the application with pid 2625 (/usr/lib/packagekitd).
Close this application before trying again.

This after rebooting as well and waiting for enough time (10 minutes). Please advise what to do.

Sorry, not to worry. The thing got righted by itself.

It usually does.

Using KDE, I disable the desktop update applet in system tray settings. That way, it does not interfere with Yast online update or with “zypper update”.

I don’t think it is so easy with Gnome, although uninstalling “packagekit” should work, but that interferes with Gnome Software.

Thanks all the same.

I also do this on Desktop machines – because I usually use the YaST automatic updater – a cron job …
On Laptops however, I leave it enabled because – a Laptop isn’t always connected to the Internet …
