P50: X server in Opensuse Leap 42.1 xfce constantly uses 80-90% CPU!

On my Thinkpad P50 with a Xeon eight-core CPU, 64 GB RAM, a NVIDIA Quadro M2000M, and a 4K display, I have installed a dual-boot system with Windows 10 and Opensuse Leap 42.1 running xfce. To set up this dual-boot system was straightforward and effortless. However, the X server in Leap 42.1/xfce uses enormous amounts of CPU power, constantly consuming about 80-90 %. This bogs down the Leap 42.1 quite heavily, rendering it practically useless. I have no idea why this is so and have found no help on the net explaining what’s going on and how to remedy this bothersome and disappointing situation.
