Overscan issue after upgrading to nvidia 340.76

I’m running 13.1 on a Samsung TV via HDMI, and a Geforce 250 video card. I am running KODI 14.2 in standalone mode, but this issue seems to appear also in the KDE interface as well. The screen is slightly overscanned, and I have the display set to 1080p @ 60 Hz. I’ve tried different frequencies, but seems to make no difference. I can select on my TV to re-scan and adjust to fit it to screen… that seems to work for 15 min or so, and then the display blinks and overscans again.

I initially had the following issue upon upgrade a couple months ago, and have had this overscan problem since then: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/504916-nvidia-update-(340-65-gt-340-76)-fails

I was hoping that an update would have solved this issue by now, but no such luck… so now I’m digging into it. I have also been tossing around the idea of upgrading to 13.2 sometime soon, and that may also solve this issue.

Any suggestions on where I can look for additional setting to tweak and examine is greatly appreciated. Not sure where to look next.

Are you using the open source (nouveau) or proprietary (nvidia) driver? These might be helpful if using the latter.

Perfect, thanks! I have the proprietary nvidia driver. I took a combination of the two, and used the nvidia x-server config utility (opened as root) to alter the ViewPortOut numbers. Then committed the changes to the xorg.conf file. Works great now, on reboot and everything. Strange that nvidia decided to make this a manual process by removing the overscan auto adjust from their driver.

Here’s a screenshot of what the final edits looked like in the nvidia utility for anyone else that comes across this issue: SUSE Paste

Thanks again!

Glad to have been of help and thanks for reporting back. I’m sure this will be useful to others who come searching.

You need to set your Samsung TV up properly assuming that you haven’t done so already. You have to rename the HDMI input to PC on the TV to get rid of overscan, I have a Samsung 40H6400.
