Over Sized Sys Tray Icons since Plasma 5.7.1 Update

Happened directly after that last plasma dot update. Sys tray icons are very over-sized compared to everything else in the panel. I changed theme thinking it might be that but it’s consistent throughout each desktop theme I try. Deleting the sys tray widget and replacing it doesn’t do anything either. Anybody else see similar?

Hello,

I also have this similar issue. I also tried to change some settings to get icons back in better design but that’s impossible. Maybe a fix sooner?

Regards

Report a bug, guys. That’s what the devs and packagers eat for breakfast :D.

Just resize the panel to make it slightly smaller and the icons will then go back to their prior smaller size. This happened to me after the update to Plasma 5.7 too but it was easy to solve. You don’t need to make the panel visibly smaller in order for the icons to revert to their prior size. Click on the wrench on the panel and then grab the height button and make the panel just a wee bit smaller…

Nah, first thing I tried with the other stuff; but it brings up something I forgot to mention that when trying to resize the panel it hard freezes every time and I have to ctrl+alt+delete to log out. It takes multiple attempts to get the panel back to the height it should be (you get about 3 seconds play time before hard freeze) - and when you first do get to raise the height the sys tray icons remain the same size, enlarged and static.

I’ll see if there’s already a bug report for it and submit if not.

Could it be possible that you have your repos mixed up? One way to find out is as follows:

First, just to make sure that all of your packages are up to date with your existing repo configuration, execute the following:

sudo zypper up
sudo zypper patch

Then, do as follows:

If you do not have the packman repo installed then execute:

sudo zypper dup --from <Frameworks5 repo> --from <Qt5 repo>

Else, if you do have the packman repo installed then execute:

sudo zypper dup --from <Frameworks5 repo> --from <Qt5 repo> --from <packman repo>

If the repos are mixed up then the output from the “zypper dup” command will suggest packages to upgrade. Whereas, if the repos are not mixed up then the output from the “zypper dup” command will not suggest any packages to upgrade.

You should backup your computer before you execute the “zypper dup” just in case things go awry.

No update neccesary yet.

It’s a known bug in 5.7.1 and it will be fixed in 5.7.2

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365570

No - probably he has everything right, since it is a know bug…!

Yeah it’s: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365570

Which is a spill over / regression of the opposite problem in 5.7: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364431

The “fix” mentioned in that bug report doesn’t fix anything though.
It just adds a (hidden) config option to set the maximum icon size.
And it will only be in 5.8.0, as it is a new feature.

We already have that patch in our packages though, and changed the openSUSE look&feel to set a lower size.
Only affects fresh user accounts though I think.

A fix has been proposed here though, this might make it into 5.7.2:

](364431 – Tiny icons in 5.7 system tray)Yeah, actually the fix for the latter (too tiny icons) caused the new problem (too big icons).

Looking like 5.7.3 brings the issue back.

I cannot confirm this here.

The system tray icons are (still) smaller now than they were in 5.7.1…

Long cold boot cures all.
