OS 13.1 - Best ddr3 choice

Hello.

I plan to revamp a linux box to make a server for my small local network ( 10 users max )

MYSQL server
Mail server
WEB server ( small - less than 200 registred users )
Backup server ( Mondo or something similar )

Motherboard : GA-Z97-D3H (dual channel memory) with I5-4460 – HASWELL 3.2 Ghz, 6Mb, HD 4600
Should be filled with 28 Go or 44 Go
No graphic card, using intel HD 4600
Need only speed on local ethernet connexion, mysql database engine

So what should I choose for memory :

KINGSTON
1°) KHX1600C9D3B1/4G CL9-9-9 (27 ??)? 4*4 (PC3-12800) DDR3 1600 €:164.00 $:201

G.Skill RipjawsX

3°) F3-2133C9Q-16GXL CL9-11-11-31 4*4 (PC3-17000) DDR3-2133 – €:181.00 $:222

4°) F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXM CL9-9-9-24 4*4 (PC3-12800) DDR3-1600 – €:179.00 $:220

If you read your motherboard’s tech specs, it should tell you. If you do not have them handy, a simple search on the web for its specs should lead you right away to the Gigabyte specs page for the motherboard.

There, it tells you it supports:

Support for DDR3 3100(O.C.) / 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz memory modules

Obviously, the fastest speed would please you the most, so go for the higher speed. In the list you provided, 2400 is the fastest speed.

Personally, since the MB maxes out at 32-Gig, I would put in 4 8-Gig modules. If a module fails, you only have to go out and get a single 8-Gig module to replace it, more economical, I would think.

I would be looking for 2800, myself, if I had that MB. Kingston makes those, I imagine others do. But, 2400 should please you.

Remember that memory is now controlled by the cpu, so higher speed memory will probably make the cpu run hotter. 2400 to 2800 might be a reasonable compromise.

Thank you for your quick answer.
What I understand ( should I ) is that a ddr3 2400 memory module should run run faster than a DDR3 1600.
But how to understand a ddr3 with CL9-9-9-24 timing (PC3 12800 DDR3 1600)
vs
a ddr3 with CL11-13-13-31 timing (PC3-19200 DDR3 2400)

Small timing is not fastest; Is it ?

This complete the answer (one of from thousands) .

Thank you for helping.

Yes. Frequency tends to trump timing.
