Hi all. As much as i try, i cannot install V12.1 OpenSuse with an Nvidia 560Ti card installed. I can install Linux Distro’s that uses pre-V3.0 Kernel (PClos, Mint 11.0, Opensuse 11.1>4), but i have to swap out the 560Ti for a 9800GTX+ to install a V3.0 kernel.
Whether it’s a full version or live, during installation it throws up an error -
Udev [153]: /sbin/modprobe -bv pci: v000010DEd00001200sv00001462sd00002382bc03sci00 [173] terminated by signal 9 (killed)
So I don’t have a 560 Ti, but I do have a 560 and a 550 Ti and both work just fine, but I do install the proprietary video driver. I also instal the very latest kernel as well. But, I suggest you want to install the nVIDIA proprietary video driver one of two ways. Either using the repository method or the hard way. I do not suggest you use the 1-Click method at this time. Here is a link for the repository method:
Now I always install the nVIDIA driver the hard way, which is not hard, but its OK to use the repository method as outlined above. If you feel more adventurous, have a look at these links on the subject:
Thanks for the info but my problem is getting OS 12.1 to install in the 1st place. I boot the system with the disk in, select install from the menu then a short while later the system hangs. As i said, i have no problem with earlier than V3.0 kernal distro’s, or with a 9800GTX+, just the 560ti and V3.0 Kernels. It happens with Gnome, KDE4 so i’m guessing it’s the Kernel.
Yes, I did not mention you should try using the kernel load option nomodeset. So during the install, I press F3 I think and change the video setup to a more compatible setup. On the first reboot, you can then type in the kernel load option **nomodeset **and later it can be added to your /boot/grub/menu.lst file as a permanent startup option.
