Trying to enable ‘programming’ in menu editor but the check mark goes away when I exit. How do I add ‘programming’ to the menu list ?

I can only guess what happens to you, but as long as you have nothing
installed which goes into the programming menu you cannot activate it
since empty menus cannot be activated (at least the last time I looked
at that).

Thanks for getting back, Martin. How then does one place an entry in the programming menu ? After my upgrade from 11.4 to 12.1 the eclipse.desktop application was the only ‘casualty’ so far… I did find it, and it does start via TERMINAL but I’d like to add it to a menu. Not sure how to do that…

Right click on the menu entry and create a new entry with a useful name
(Eclipse for example) then fill into the new entry all you need to start it.

Thanks again - that’s what the problem was (no entries). Now my next challenge is getting Eclipse.desktop to run. On 11.4 it was an icon on the desktop and worked. Not sure how to get it on a desktop, if there even is one to put applications onto.
OK - please ignore as I am good to go now. Thanks again.
Is there another tool to edit menus? Or what are the config files that could be edited in a text editor? Alacarte does not show everything that the main menu does, so where are the files that the menu is drawing from?
