Oracle 11g on OpenSUSE 12.2

Has anyone successfully installed Oracle 11g on OpenSUSE 12.2?
I downloaded the x86_64 version of Oracle 11g Oracle 11g on OpenSUSE 12.2 and Oracle 11g on OpenSUSE 12.2.
I installed the required missing packages (well there are few still missing but those are x386 and I cant install them).
I got following error: "

INFO: /usr/bin/ar: <path>/app/troofeed/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/ntcontab.o: No such file or directory

"

INFO: End output from spawned process.

Then I went through the supported OS and I didnt file SUSE 12 there:

4.1 Operating System Requirements

The following or later versions of the operating system are required for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2):

  • Asianux Server 3 SP2
  • Oracle Linux 4 Update 7
  • Oracle Linux 5 Update 2
  • Oracle Linux 6
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Please help!!!

This may be a bit superfluous remark (after all you are asking if anybody did install it in openSUSE 12.2), but openSUSE is not in the list you mention.

When you assume that openSUSE 12.2 can be interpreted as being as “later version” of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11, I m not sure you are correct. openSUSE and SLE are definitely different in many points.

Oracle 11gR2 should install on 12.2. I have got it running on OpenSuse 12.3 64 bit.

There are some requirements you should meet. First of all see the Oracle / Novell documentation in
Index of /partners/oracle/docs

You should follow the instructions for OracleDB_on_SLES11SP3.pdf (and the related SP2, SP1 versions).
It is also recommended to install the orarun package which can be found in Index of /partners/oracle/sles-11

Thanks for the reply. What I was looking for is some official certification of 11g on OpenSuse 12.2, which I cant find it anywhere.
If it worked for you then you might have done some extra steps. One missed step and the whole installation can be screwed up.

Can you please let me know which exact steps you followed and if there were some missing libs error which you ignored?

i don’t think you will ever find that…openSUSE does not “officially
certify” anything that i know of…

if you wanna use an enterprise level Oracle then you should look to
them (www.oracle.com) to designate what operating systems to use 11g
with (as far as i know they name several different enterprise level
Linux distributions, none of which are named openSUSE…)

i’ve not looked lately but the last time i did SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server (SLES) was ‘certified’ by Oracle as a suitable operating system…

these are the openSUSE forums and you seem to be searching for for a
‘certified’ to use OS…so have look at the forums for that level of
product, here: http://forums.suse.com/

what i am saying is that openSUSE 12.2 is not a newer version of
SLES 11 SPx, they are similar but different products and not
interchangeable…
