A DVD+R disk is just smaller than a DVD-R disk, and the latter was used to test the disk build I guess. Switching to a DVD-R did allow me to create an openSUSE 12.3 RC2 boot disk that works.

I download 12.3 RC3 (Build 0094) yesterday. today I tried an DVD+R and
found problems that were mentioned in prior posts. I Then found I had
a couple of DVD+RW’s (4.7GB) aroune. I burned one, and boot into the
12.3 RC3 installation program . Got as far as partitioning disk.
Suggested / and /home on my external 1TB disk which has 400GB unused.
Why there when I have a 12.3 install on sdb and a sdc (320GB) drive
that is completely empty.
Aborted at this point since I have been unable to get any of the prior
12.3 installs to boot. They do install. I have latest BIOS as far as I
know, will check that later today. (Hardware described in signature).
Main purpose here is to let you know that the 4.7 GB DVD+RW works. I
have the Staples Brand (Office Supply Stores in US).
I too…
I am not able to write to any DVD+RW disks. I have tried Verbatim, Phillips none work… I like re-using my disks, so I am a a little disappointed that 12.3 DVD iso will not fit on a standard DVD+RW.
I hope the final release will be made suitable for fitting onto Standard DVDs.
I had none of this problem with the RC1.
So things have been left in that should not be there or some major changes have added to the volume.
If you installed with the DVD, then your system is in “ifup” mode. If you use Yast to switch to NetworkManager, then your system will still be in “ifup” mode, except it won’t work at all.
Use Yast to put back into “ifup” mode. You can try configuring that way.
To switch to NetworkManager, follow the instruction in the release-notes. You can find the release-notes somewhere under “/usr/share/doc”.
For RC2 I did not have any single layer -R DVDs in my appartment but I did have a number of single layer +R DVD and also a number of double layer +R DVDs. The price of double layer DVDs has dropped signficantly, and while still more expensive than single layer DVDs, the double layer are no longer relatively expensive. Where I live in Europe if I order a pack of 25 double layers for anywhere from an average price of 50-euro-cents per double layer DVD to an average price of 1.20 euros per double layer DVD.
So I used one of my +R double layer DVDs and RC2 worked fine.
As Jim noted, for the GM version of openSUSE-12.3 this has been fixed and openSUSE-12.3 GM will burn on to both +R and -R single layer DVDs.
