Hello, I have picked up a cheep Conpaq Proliant 8500 it has:4-700/100MHz Xeon processors, 512MB-RAM, 3-18.2 SCSI drives in Raid 0 on a Compaq Smart Array 3200 controller, 1-cdrom, 1-3.5 floppy (the cd and flopy are controled via PCI Embedded Compaq Intergrated PCI IDE Controler). NO USB PORTS and NO DVD.
Attempting to Install openSUSE 11 it stops at “Mounting cd/dvd…”, “rebootException: error consoles at Alt-F3/F4”, “rebootExceptio: Reboot in 120sec.”
I am a newbe and don’t know how to post the details of “Alt-F3/F4”.
When I look at it the only error I see is Alt-F3 “systemException ‘Could’/’‘t find CD image configuration file’ reboot”, “set +x”
Any ideas on how to complete the install would be appreciated!
Why don’t you try a LiveCD and see if it detects the Raid0 array; note the driver in system info in Yast.
One of the F-n tabs at the bootsplash allows you to add a driver from an IO device (floppy probably easiest). So, you can obtain the needed driver and use that feature.
Since about 10.1 SuSE has had the feature of detecting and auto-installing on a motherboard raid. Installing on an already winxp established array can be troubling. A long time ago, I had to install SuSE on a separate disk, get it up and Raid array setup and then copy it to the raid array; changing my menu.lst to reflect the new disk parameters. BTW, you may need a /boot partition too if you go that route (create it at the initial install).

Yes, I am using the live cd openSUSE 11. The dvd is not an option. When it boots and installs the kernel it looses access to the cd drive and stops booting up.
Small correction - I can’t get openSUSE to BOOT never mind the installation.
