Sorry if the title of this thread seems OTT, my frustration is spilling over.
I have used Linux for 5 years, (mainly 'buntus & derivitives) with no problems.
During that time I have occasionally played with OpenSuse, but have never managed to get a working Desktop (nearly always wireless related).
Anyway 12.3 comes along, I play with the live CD, and wireless & internet work with no issues. So I installed.
On reboot no NetworkManager. So in a Terminal as root I start NetworkManager. Then I connect to my Netgear Wireless Router, enter WPA password & it connects.
But now I cannot access the internet. Must be Firewall I thought, so disabled that, still no internet.
So anyway, were i’m at is, evertime I reboot I have to start NetworkManager via the terminal. I can connect to my router but cannot get online.
I’m determined to get OpenSuse to work this time, so I would appreciate any help.
Hi, good you came here.
Start Yast - Networkdevices - Networksettings. In Global Options check whether Networkmanager is selected, my bet is that it isn’t. If not, set it to use the Networkmanager. Reboot, login and you should see the Networkmanager. The previous situation would not work, since DNS and gateway were missing.
Thanks Knurpht, that worked, online at last.
I will now set about configuring the rest of my Desktop.
Thanks again.

The firewall wouldn’t have anything to do with it - the firewall is
ingress only, and Internet connectivity reqiures egress, which the
firewall doesn’t prevent.
Usually this has to do with the default route being set up.
You haven’t told us anything about the wireless card in the system, if
you’re using DHCP or static addresses - that would be useful information
to know to help you get the connection working.
