opensuse & vista

hi all,
i have got a new laptop and vista is installed.
i would like to have a dual bootystem (vista, suse). for this reason i have downloaded suse 11.1 from the server together with the description for the installation.

when i started to install it i found the following problem:

suggested partioning

  • delete partition /dev/sda1 (1.16 GB)
  • delete windows partition /dev/sda2 (116.21 GB)
Resize impossibe due to inconsistent fs. Try
    checking fs under windows.
  • delete windows partition /dev/sda3 (57.66 GB)
Resize impossibe due to inconsistent fs. Try
    checking fs under windows.
  • delete partition /dev/sda4 (3.01 GB)
  • delete windows partition /dev/sda5 (3 GB)
Resize impossibe due to inconsistent fs. Try
    checking fs under windows.
(all above was written in red letters!)
  • create swap part. /dev/sda1 (2.01 GB)
  • create root part. /dev/sda2 (20 GB) with ext3
  • create partition /dev/sda3 (210 GB) for /home
(all above was written in white letters!)

so what should i do?
i don’t want to delete windows vista.

if i am checking my partitions in the windows explorer i can only find 3 partions:
c: 116 GB
d: 3 GB
e: 57,6 GB

why can i see with suse 5 partitions and with windows only 3???

c: should be /dev/sda2
d: should be either /dev/sda4 or /dev/sda5
e: should be /dev/sda3

windows is installed under c:
I don`t want to delete this part.

can anybody help and explain those stuffs to me?
thanks.
lena

I can explain, first of all there are probably two partitions hidden to allow restoration of Windows Vista, inconsistent state means You need to cleanly logout from Vista (preferably defragment all ntfs disks, it will help when resizing them under openSUSE).

The red letters show what changes will be commited to the filesystem

When installing just click create partition setup. It will start from scratch (i’d leave those hidden partitions, resize Windows partition (backup first), delete other two (copy their content somewhere) and create an extended partition. In there create three partitions, /home, /boot/ and / .
