Hi,
First I’ve installed opensuse 11 with kde4 but yesterday I reinstalled my opensuse and now I’m using opensuse 11 with kde3.5.
But now opensuse updater didn’t work properly. There is not systray icon (there is empty space on systray where the icon should be) and I ca’n vew if there are new updates and tec. etc. There no user interface. The only package I found for opensuse 11 is kde4-opensuse-updater 0.7. This package is for kde4 but people in internet said that it should be work on kd3.5 too but it not work for me.
I also have openSUSE 11.0 with KDE 3.5 and it uses kde4-opensuse-updater 0.7.x. KDE 3.5 uses some apps of KDE 4.x. First thing you could try is to configure “Online Update Configuration” using YaST. If that didn’t work, you can reinstall updater and then configure it. Let us know how it goes.
OK, I run configuration, it tells me that everything is ok but there is still no icon in systray. after that I reinstalled the package and runconfiguration again - there is stil no icon in systray. I have opensuseupdater runned all the time but it just not show its systray icon and I can’t view if there si new update - there is epty space in systray in the same place where updater icon should be. It’s runned but there is no UI when I stop opensuseupdater from processes - empty space in systray hides. When I runn it again the empty space shows again.
Just wondering what happen if you right or left click on the empty space. At this point, I am not sure what’s wrong. Something is happening beyond my knowledge.
One workaround will be to enable the “Automatic Online Update” from YaST. By default it is disabled. Another way is to do it the hard way, check manually. But I understand that is not a fix to your issue.
Anyone has any idea. Help needed here!
$ cat ~/.kde4/share/config/opensuseupdaterrc
$ zypper lr -d
Nothing happens when I click with Left or Right mouse button over empty space.
OK- I’ve enabled Aoutomatic online update.
@RedDwarf
I haven’t opensuseupdaterrc in ~/.kde4/share/config/
zypper lr -d

Installing the kde4 runtime and the oxygen icon theme restored my little green gecko. I’m only running KDE 3.5.9 …
Yep, when I’ve installed kde4 runtime packages everything is OK now. Many thanks.
