openSUSE Tumbleweed XFCE. Problem on old laptop

Hi everyone.
I would like to express my positive impression of openSUSE products again. I am using openSUSE Tumbleweed, Slowroll, and Leap with both XFCE and KDE desktops in VMs. In addition, I am using Fedora 39 KDE and Linux Mint 21.3 beta with XFCE desktop on vm. In an old (15 years old) laptop, I am using openSUSE TW until today, after testing many desktops, with XFCE. Before talking about the problem, I would like to clarify that I always use the software-gnome app for application search in all my installations. However, I keep automatic updates disabled. A problem I had with TW XFCE on the old laptop was the intense CPU usage at idle after closing a browser. The system monitor does not show any background app activity, but the CPU indicator reports a CPU usage of 75/95% with the fan at maximum speed. The launch of inxi -bm confirmed the maximum CPU usage. I have now reinstalled KDE, always with KDE-PIM excluded from the installation. What could have compromised the operation of TW XFCE?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Mauro

Hi, thanks for your interest.
In the last few days I have done several installations of TW with XFCE desktop.
I always had the same problem. This morning I installed TW with KDE. So I couldn’t replicate the problem. I’ve never had any problems with KDE…

Hi there.
After some testing, I finally managed to replicate the weird behavior of openSUSE TW XFCE. All my installations have gnome-software installed, even though I’m using the XFCE and KDE desktops. The problem occurred in VM with TW XFCE and Slowroll XFCE. When I run the update and restart through GUI, the gnome-software GUI opens again after restart. This happens even if I kill the application before restart. The XFCE menu has an entry called “saved session,” and if you don’t delete that, the gnome-software GUI will keep popping up on restart.
