Hello I recently installed OpenSuse tumbleweed and it works amazing but I just updated my system a little while and it was working fine until I noticed I was unable to mount my drives/SSD’s I was able to rollback thankfully via “snapper list” but I wanted to know if there is a way to still update my system or is it best to not do so, sorry of this sounds dumb I am quite new to this.
How did you update?
How do you normally mount the drives?
I update my system using the command “sudo zypper update” & I use the file manager nemo to mount my drives
Is wrong. On TW one should use sudo zypper dup
, not up
.
Understood so using “sudo zypper dup” should fix my issue with the drive mounting as well?
Could be, otherwise we’d need more info from your side. Make sure to reboot after the dup
I have the same issue still once I use “sudo zypper dup” I am unable to mount my drives and I get the error An operation is already pending & I have rebooted my system
Please show output of
sudo lsblk
cat /etc/fstab
dmozpc@MS-7B98:~> sudo lsblk

I also checked the packages that are related to the most current update and these are all the available packages for it, I believe this might be helpful

Can you, as the user mount one of the USBs in a command line and output results here?

I hope this is correct and once I do this my drive disappears from nemo
I apologize for the wrong formatting I am struggling with it for some reason
You correctly entered </> at the begin and end but as @knurpht asked but that is not the way to do it. Instead of typing </> you should use the </> Preformatted text
menu item you can find by first pressing the gear button
But that is a side problem, the more surprising is “once I do this my drive disappears from nemo”
So if you execute lsblk
, your drives disappear? If so, how do you notice this, can you still execute dmesg
? If so, please share the lines of dmesg from just before executing dmesg till the end.
My drives disappear on my file manager nemo once I mount them via the terminal not when I run the command lsblk, im currently away from my rig but once im back on I will execute dmesg
I believe its a cinnamon issue I installed a new DE and that fixed my whole issue I can update my system via sudo zypper dup with no issues now, mounting works perfectly as well
Just a note that my TW installation also has apparently lost the capability to automount USB drives. This might have happened after yesterday’s update. no cinnamon here. I’ll keep investigating.
Nevermind, just realized it is a faulty drive. Sorry for the noise.
