Hi, according to this http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/Changes.20170209.txt no changes to the kernel occurred, so it is the same of the 20170208 snapshot, quoting from http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/Changes.20170208.txt :
Packages changed:
…
kernel-source (4.9.7 -> 4.9.8)
…
Don’t know if that sounds “the last” to you, kernel:stable carries 4.9.9 already…
hello dear Orsobruno
many thanks for the quick ANSWER.
probably you may wonder why i asked.
note: at the moment i run version 13.2 - and all the version 42.1 did not run well - so i stick to the 13.2
why: - the notebook - was able to run shutdown - but not went in to a poweroff - so there was no poweroff possible - only with the kernel 3.16
**
today i allready **run some tests with the **knoppix 7.6.1 **- and terribly - there no poweroff was possible.
see this thread for more insights into the issue - that i have for more than 1.5 years now-,
at the moment i am on openSuse 13.2 - which seems to be a very bad option - there seems to be no support for this sytstem any more. So i need to update / upgrade soon as possible
how to test linux with the newest kernel - the 4.8 or 4.9 one. is there a distribution that contains all the things already!?
note: there are not too many data on this notebook - a hp notebook with 500 GB
what is difficult: the notebook has got issues with leap-42 1 and former (certain) releases of tumbleweed: te shutdown amd turn off does not work at all i ran into freezing 100 % the time.
what is supposed: i and others think that i have issues with the Bug 109051 - intel_idle.max_cstate=1 required on baytrail to prevent crashes see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051so the only system that works is the Opensuse 13.2 - i am on this for one year now: but i am wanting to test newer ones - how would i do this!?
**solutions and ideas:
**- is there a new distri that comes with the newest kernel - 4.8 or 4.9!?
a thread with more informations

Bug 109051 - intel_idle.max_cstate=1 required on baytrail to prevent crashes
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051
i did not have created a bug-report - should i do this now!?
the notebook is this one **HP Notebook hp 14 r 103ng
**

so - the question of the day is: how to get a new opensuse linux that is capable to do **shutdown and poweroff
**
i love to hear from you - Many thanks for your help - and for any and all help.
maybe check using a live CD/USB. GeckoLinux provides such
A lot of questions… each deserving a thread maybe. Just a quick answer to point you in the right direction (hopefully).
- is there a new distro that comes with the newest kernel - 4.8 or 4.9!?
As said, current TW comes with 4.9.8.
Not checked recently, but GeckoLinux Rolling ( https://geckolinux.github.io ) being a TW derivative should come with a 4.9.x (likely 4.9.7) and might have more codecs etc. working out of the box.
You can install kernel 4.9.9 on Leap 42.2 by adding the Kernel:/stable repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard
Maybe 4.9.9 works even on 13.2, but the “leap” from 3.16 to 4.9 might be too much for 13.2 libraries to cope with…
Among distros with a 4.8.x kernel you may find *buntu 16.10 and Solus ( https://solus-project.com ), both with ready-to-test live versions.
Among others… am I DistroWatch???
- should i take into consideration to install parallel to the 13.2 ?! [well if i do a new and fresh install- - in parallel to the allready existing opensuse 13.2 installation: i could do that - with a new partition: 15 GB for the new installation / and for the new /home direcory would fit…]
Good idea. See https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/522912-easiest-way-to-a-clean-install-with-yast-partitioner-(wipe-existing-partions-before-contueing-on)?p=2811856#post2811856 and adapt to your setup.
- should i save the data and try a new fresh installation from ground up!?
Maybe, after you have found a suitable system to install; for preliminary tests I would prefer Live DVDs.
- can i do a zypper dup - or up so that i do some upgrading with the allready runnning 13.2
“zypper up” only updates packages in a given release. To upgrade to another release you need “zypper dup”, but that is guaranteed to work only between successive releases, e.g. from 13.2 to 42.1 and then from 42.1 to 42.2.
Unless you have lot of extra SW or custom configs on 13.2 (that are not guaranteed to work in 42.2 anyway), a fresh install is cleaner and might avoid troubles down the road caused by leftover config files and the like.
Anyway, it’s your machine so the choice is yours…
Just a Heads Up: with snapshot 20170212 TW was updated to the 4.9.9 kernel according to http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/Changes.20170212.txt
