OpenSUSE Tumbleweed Setup - Network Settings Screen

I’m new to OpenSUSE and i’m lost on the “Network Settings” part of the installation and how can I connect to my wireless network?

If there is a network manager icon in the system tray, use that.

However, maybe your system was not recognized as a laptop, in which case the network is probably using “wicked”.

Yast → System → Network Settings

Click the “Global Options” tab. Then, near the top of the screen, there’s a choice for “Network Setup Method”. Switch that to use “NetworkManager”.

After that, you should be able to use NetworkManager for your wireless. If you cannot work it out, then at least tell us which desktop you are using (KDE Plasma, Gnome, XFCE, etc). Setting up the wireless connection is a bit different between those, and perhap not very obvious for Gnome.

Oops. Skip my earlier reply. I totally missed that this was for use during installation.

If you are using the DVD installer, then you can install without the network. Just skip that section of the install (maybe click “Okay” or “Finish” without doing anything). If you really, really need Wireless during install from the DVD, then select the line with your adapter, and click “Edit”. You should be prompted for the needed information. But it is easier to manage without, then use NetworkManager after install to setup the wireless connection.

If you are using the NET installer, you might have to plug in an ethernet cable. When I last tried, setting up Wireless was broken. I have not heard that it is fixed, though I guess I should test that sometimes.

I find after when I don’t configure the network the repositories don’t work

This is after the install right? Or wait until you install to get any extra stuff

Is the WIFI or hard wire?

You can configure the network after the install in Yast

Just leave out adding any

It will all work fine after install

It works ok. When I installed it was complaining about repositories not being found. So I pressed “retry” on each of the errors and it works.

You should disable the installation source repository after install, be it a DVD or USB that you used

Thanks for your help
