Hello,
not sure how active this forum is but I’m already grasping at straws as it is…
So I installed OpenSuse on my Thinkpad SL510 (2847-CSG), but the wireless thing isn’t working. I’ve narrowed it down to a Realtek Semiconductor RTL8192SE wireless card.
The problem is, when using the network manager (or knetworkmanager or whatnot), I cannot access the “wireless”-tab. I thought it was some driver missing but what do I know. Downloaded the driver-file from realtek. (remember, I don’t even know whether this is my problem or not), but of course I don’t have a clue of how to install something on OpenSUSE, been googling it for days but to no avail.
I heard of something called Zypper, tried using the terminal, like “zypper in /home/…/RTL8192SE” didn’t work but then again, I don’t know the syntax and help is nowhere to be found.
I tried terminal “su” to get root access, and then something like “install /home/…/RTL8192SE”, but as stated above…
ndiswrapper is another thing I heard of, but I don’t know how to install it so…
The yast -> software manager is a complete mystery. This sucks.
Please help me! (:
Which desktop? If “Networkmanager” was your choice, this means that you make the networkconnection from your desktop, not from Yast.
Thanks for replying! Oh, KDE! (I hope that’s what you were fishing for…) Well the network manager didn’t work very well, so I’ve opened yast and network settings and chosen traditional ifup-thingy, but haven’t had much success with that either.

Have you done any research on these forums? I think not as there are two or
three open threads that discuss the facts regarding RTL8192SE, which are (1)
there is no driver in the kernel until 3.0, and (2) that driver is not yet
turned on in openSUSE kernels.
Please search for “RTL8192SE”, read those threads, and decide how you want to
proceed. Once you select one of the solutions, I will try to help you.
I figured it out, thanks to old posts! Which makes this thread pretty void… Thanks anyways

Sometimes we have to kick you to do some research, but it usually works out in
the end, other than it makes me mad. Of course, everyone thinks their problems
are unique.
