openSUSE support from forum is a top feature of distro

Many of the top linux pundits, i.e., linux cast, dj ware, tunnel, etc have commented favorably on openSUSE over recent years. They like many features including yast (had to get that in).

But, none of these reviewers have commented on the quality and timely responses you get when posting an issue in the openSUSE forum. If you pose an issue on a weekend or at 3 am or on a holiday, you get some comment from a “first responder” within a few minutes. I remember from my old windows days that that it took forever to get an answer on anything even on a paid basis.

If you look at your forum post you can see the views build up very rapidly no matter what time of day, week, or even holidays. People are always there looking at posts.

There is a cadre of responders that offer a high level of expertise. I think these people should be acknowledged as a key positive component to use of openSUSE.

At times, I get worked over some by these guys for some of my statements but it is always done in a civilized unemotional manner with great patience. I really appreciate this resource and thank these people.

I strongly agree, Tom, and I count this as another argument in favor of openSUSE.

This gives me an excuse to ask a question that I’ve wanted to ask for a long time: are some regulars here moonlighting from staff positions at SUSE? That would partly explain the depth of knowledge shown here, which strikes me as unusual for a user forum.

@Tuner See https://forums.opensuse.org/about, so that would be a no of forum staff, except some of the Hereos that help out from a technical perspective on the Forum software, there are a number of Forum users who are current or ex SUSE folks…

No. The only one showing here now and then is Luboš ( @lkocman ), @shundhammer was on the YaST team for 30 years if that counts. But most of the regulars here never worked for SUSE. I may have forgotten some, but this from what I know.

Long-standing question answered at last: thank you, Malcolm and Gertjan … and Malcolm, I’d never known that ‘about’ page exists!
