How is the support for the following 3G modems in openSUSE?, just plug and play, extra configuration requiered, which one is recommended and easier to configure?.

There is no substitute for a proper router, the way to go IMO.
E160 works good for me.

OpenSuse 11.1 x86_64 on a Toshiba Tecra.
A ZTE MF626 works!!!

I would NOT say it is easy, and I have issues: hoping to get some help with that!
First: If you use a model from Telstra you need to use AT commands to tell it to stop pretending to be a CDROM drive!!
Once you have done that you can see it in dmesg.
Then modprobe usbserial vendor=0x19d2 product=0x0031
Given the correct wvdial.conf, run wvdial which sets up a pppd connection. It works, I did it myself.
Problem 1: How to modprobe the usbserial driver automatically?
What is the “approved” (yast2?) way to do this?
Problem 2: Manually editing wvdial.conf and running wvdial to initiate pppd, how does the firewall see this connection?

Problem 3: Assumes wvdial is the right way to launch pppd: I have to run wvdial twice to get a connection. The first time it fails with IPCP Config timeout consistently. Why might I not get an IP address on the first go? does pppd try something different the second time? Is it timing, or does something need to be done twice?
Otherwise I am happy with it.

OK I forgot to mention that:
I did not get my setup to work with NetworkManager,
I switched to ifup in Yast2.
Maybe it works? I like ifup anyway.

I have used the package ozerocdoff to achieve the same thing without the need for manual at commands.

Ok I will buy a ZTE MF636 modem, so if someone has make it work in openSUSE 11.1 32 bit I would appreciate some help, I have found lots of manuals but they are for Ubuntu not for openSUSE 11.1 32 bit or another Modem model, but I need some help because I don`t want to damage my system or MODEM.
