i downt now if this is the right place but i want to say thanks to opensuse linux.
in christmas holidays i try to make a winxp boot alternative as a newbie to opensuse 11.1
i choose the 64 bit version of opensuse and burn it to dvd.
installation failed because my dvd was not set as a master jumper but i correct that.
then i take a while to check out that i have to be in the group sound to hear sound.
then i read a lot of alsa sound to get my sounblaster audigy 4 right enable
install the nvidia driver for my 8800 gt also take some hours.
some times later i was able to start operation flashpoint an directx 8 game via wine to run.
DVB-S with kaffeine works fine.
my system abit ax87 am2+ board
cpu amd 6000+
colorful 8800 gt
2 g ram
haupauge nova dvb-s
samsung hardisk 400gb
sb audigy4
Welcome to linux! Good to hear you kept going till it worked. Part of it is the satisfaction of getting it running correctly. I found opensuse 10 easier to install and run ‘out the box’ than winxp 64 bit.
Linux has come a long way frrom the early days when it ran best on older hardware. Nowdays all the latest hardware is there.

Here is a link to a read of some basic openSUSE concepts: Concepts - openSUSE
… which can be useful for new users to openSUSE Linux who come from a Windows background.
