Computer makers are offering netbooks with Windows XP and Ubuntu but I haven’t seen SUSE in the mix-whats the deal.
You guys know of how it runs on any of the popular (good) netbook models.

Runs perfectly out of the box on my MSI Wind U100. Audio, Fn keys, wifi, etc. Ethernet needs a kernel update that you’ll get after your first system update on 11.1. Couple of tweaks for the webcam and for KDE4 effects are in the openSUSE wiki (just serch for “MSI Wind”). Suspend/Hibernate works in GNOME; not certain about KDE4. It seems to lock up at times when trying to wake up. Maybe a powerdevil issue?
Look in this thread: Which Netbooks does openSUSE work best with? - openSUSE Forums
For me is the HP2140 the best…
Have a look on the support…ok you have to install drivers but it is supported and read the part “3D works great…”
I think about buying someone…i like the alu-finish and the nice keyborad!
I hope it is helpfull for you;)
Hi
Have an Asus eeePC 1000HC up the ram to 2GB and replaced the 160GB with
a 250GB I had here, works fine. 3D graphics out of the box as well as
bluetooth, webcam, suspend, wifi (ath9k) brightness etc. The N280 cpu
is a feisty little cpu.

I’m the one that did the entry/review.
Pros:
(on 3D, this is NOT a 3D powerhouse, but enough to run
the desktop effects and certain lower end games)
Cons:
Thx for this post…
I know that the 3D is not like a power n-nvidia
in a tower-pc…
I need it only for fo compiz/fusion and for watching videos…i think it will be ok for that…
For the battery i have the bigone (6cel.)for the hp 2133…its the same!
Does the 3D work out of the box?
What wireless driver have u used?

yes/no… like anything, you may have to play with things
a bit. I didn’t even try KDE 4… IMHO, that’s broken
by design… but I know some do use the UI and think
it works fine… however, they are sadly mistaken

You have to use the Broadcomm free (not as beer) bwl driver.
If you use the truly free one, WPA will NOT work.
I bought it…its really nice…KDE4 rocks on this small screen…i tasted first gnome but it…
Hi
What netbook did you get?

Agree… which one? Sig says 2133… which is different.
But his comment about screen resolution fits the 2140… so
I’m guessing it’s the 2140.
My experiments looked GREAT on the 2140… but again,
I focused on the very usable KDE 3.5… and NOT on
the (evil) KDE 4.

My mistake… he was talking about Gnome… Lots of people
are complaining about Gnome fonts… not just openSUSE
either.
Hi
Mine’s 1024x600 and gnome is fine font wise… using the default…
Wonder if it’s a dpi issue?

Both GNOME and KDE4 look great on my MSI Wind (1024x600). I greatly prefer KDE4 because it lends itself perfectly to a customized netbook interface. *(http://hanswchen.wordpress.com/2009/02/21/some-screenshots-from-my-netbook/).
And it looks all set to get better! Aaron Seigo posted on his blog about a netbook specific plasma interface for KDE4. Unfortunately it probably won’t be available till 4.4; and he isn’t giving any hints about what it will entail. However, if the recent enhancements are any clue, it’s bound to be great!*
I bought yesterday a new HP Mini 2140
I intalled fist GNOME but i had bugs with the resolution 1024x500…all the time my windows get out of the cube and i can t any more get it back…and anyway it looks bad…
First i was thinking that something goes wrong at the installation and i give GNOME a second chance but definity GNOME has a Problem with this LCD…
After i installed KDE4 (i had a bad feeling) i tasted KDE4 in summer! :X
After all updates (system and software) i fixed the wireless Driver for BCM4322… - openSUSE Forums
-And now im so confident! This smallone rocks and KDE4 rocks too! I boght it with SUSE Linux Enterprise 10…(price is a lot under eeepc!!!)
5 stars for the new HP 2140…
You should test KDE4 on the HP 2140…but not without all possible updates…i m impressed about te proceedings…
Hi
1024x500 seems strange? The Asus is 1024x600…

Actually, it’s 1024x576… Linux (perhaps apart from
Gnome) can handle this just fine. Windows? Even
some of the standard dialogs assume 600 vertical.
Sorry…its HP Illumi-Lite LED SD (1024 x 576)
but its anyway a strange!
