OpenSUSE on HP4510s Display Problem (Wierd)

Hi All

I need some help getting OpenSUSE to work correct on my laptop.

I’m having the strangest problem.

I have Windows 7 installed and working perfect. I then installed OpenSUSE 11.1 on the rest of the harddrive and it works, but it doesn’t display on my laptop screen, only on an external LCD.

During installation the display worked perfect with no issues at all, but after the first reboot there was no display on my laptop screen. I by chance plugged in a external LCD at some point and lo and behold, I’ve got display.

I cannot get the display to move to my laptop screen. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well xrandr results report two displays active (both 1360x768). LVDS is you laptop display. VGA is your external display. Have you tried using Fn + Fx (where Fx=F3,F4,F5, or similar) to see whether you can toggle displays etc?

Anyway, from examining your xorg.conf, you have two monitor sections (“Monitor[0]” and “EXT”). This Intel Dual Head Guideguide may be useful in configuring your displays correctly.

In particular, it mentions all monitors need to be referenced in the “Device” section, and there are some options you can put in the “Monitor” sections to make them behave the way you want them to. Finally, the “Screen” section needs to contain a virtual display size similar to this

Virtual                 2048 2048

and it mentions that this is the maximum horizontal and vertical size you can choose, depending on your hardware. In your case, since you are trying to make one display appear to the right of the other, you may need something like

Virtual                 2048 768

You may find you can get away with a larger horizontal size, but you will need to experiment.
