Hi all,
I have a HP mini 5101 wit OpenSuse 11.2. Unfortunately, I wanted to have a newer version 11.3, but I upgraded in a wrong way and the system not started any more, failed in start-up level 5 and ran the Kernel. I tried to find the solution, searched on google, but I think made it worse (personal feeling): made some changes in xconfig. Of course, the problem remained.
Then I decided to make a system recovery. Everything was OK, until the last step, when the system prepared the first login. I saw this message for a few seconds:
*** Starting Yast2 ***
basename: missing operand
Try 'basename --help' for more information
SPP: could not open file: at /usr/share/sax/modules/SPPParse.pm line 61
When I switch on my netbook, during the loading everything seems ok, after loading I see the background but no login window, nothing. I don’t know what’s the problem.
I started the system recovery again and again. In few times I saw this on screen for a second, then return the background:
Starting INET services. (xinetd) failed
...
...
Failed services in runlevel 5: mysql xinetd
Skipped services in runlevel 5: snbfs cifs nfs ypbind
Can I solve it somehow?
I’m not an expert, so please if I can ask you, tell me the solution step by step. Thank you in advance
Sorry, I was not clear. The 11.3 not worked, therefore I installed 11.2. In my netbook is an option for system recovery, where I can reinstall the OpenSuse 11.2.
Start in level 3, get the boot log, upload to pastebin, tell us.
Ok. I don’t know if I did in good way, when computer started, there was options:
HP 5101 Business Mode
Failsafe Mode
System Recovery
Boot Options _____________
I wrote in a a boot option: 3 and pushed ENTER
Here is the picture from my screen: http://www.opcal.eu/IMG_0290.jpg
Sorry, i don’t know pastebin, hope in picture form is also ok.
Thanks
That appears to be the Enterprise version not OpenSuse. So do you want to reinstall that or install the different version called OpenSUSE 11.2 or even 11.3? These are all different things.
Since it’s an OEM install of SLED and if it’s still under warranty,
you need to talk direct with the folks at HP. There are HP repositories
and drivers that they maintain for your system.
If you want to upgrade to SLED 11 SP1, again you need to talk HP as
they have there own procedure to update.
For any other SLED issues you need to post at http://forums.novell.com as these forums are for openSUSE not SLE
products. There is an HP person that swings by the forums to pick up
issues like this.
If your wanting to install openSUSE 11.3, then suggest you either
burn a live CD (if you have an external CD ROM), else use a live cd
image on a USB drive. This forum can help you with this.
There are some HP customized drivers for video and wireless, so you may
have some issues with openSUSE 11.3, but I’m sure they can be resolved
here.

You are using an enterprise version, SLED probably. You should have paid
support and specific forums. Probably a version made for HP or suplied
by them, thus the “system recovery” option. I’m not familiar with it.
It certainly is not openSUSE 11.2.
However, your hard disk is not recognised or it is not present as
/dev/sda. You have to find out what happened to it, if it has changed
name, doesn’t work, whatever.

Hi all,
thank you for your replies. It is a big shame for me. Sorry. Ok, I decided to buy an external CD drive, erase the HDD and install the OS again. Thanks and sorry.
