I mean, since I am re-installing anyways, if I won’t have desktop icons as before, I shall downgrade at this point. I am not the fan of the elimination of old features.
So, is it final that LEAP 42.1 does NOT allow interacting with desktop as a folder/icons? Because, I download, and put materials on Desktop, and wish to have quick access to it, rather than to search through folders all the time. I also am not a fan of the folder widget. I just want the older “Desktop Icons” Activities.
If that’s not there, I am going 13.1
Not a clue what you mean activities is a feature and still there. Don’t understand what you mean by older “Desktop Icons” Activities
Plasma5 has a bunch of things dropped like different wallpaper and widgets on the virtual desktops. The KDE people are really pushing activities instead of virtual desktops but it is not the same.
But in any case it is a KDE/plasma5 issue not really a openSUSE one
I think I get what you mean.
I think I am going to hold onto KDE4 and embrace no change. Right now, I am quite happy to be back on 13.1 laptop.
What I refer to “Desktop Icons” is referred here:

What does this question has to do with the subject of this thread: OpenSUSE LEAP vs “regular” versions? Should I upgrade?

You can still create activities. And you can still name them as you wish.
I’m guessing the real issue for you, is having icons on the desktop. So create an activity and add them there (I already did this). Or change your current activity to show icons.
For the latter (to show icons), or to show icons for a new activity:
- Right click on the desktop;
- Click “Desktop Settings”
- Near the top of the settings window, switch the “Layout” from “Desktop” to “Folder View”
That’s all there is to it.
Note that KDE4 and plasma5 store configs differently and in a different location so old setting are not conserved when moving and you need to redo you desktop
