My system is AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor, (12 Processing Threads)
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 62Gi 8.4Gi 47Gi 78Mi 7.6Gi 54Gi
Swap: 2.0Gi 0B 2.0Gi
The disk is a pair of 2TiB drives using software RAID -1
I create VMs with disks of 150 GiB and vRAM of 16 GiB and 4 vCPU
My “server” is Leap 15.4, only running QEMU/KVM,
I tend to only have one VM running at a time, though occasionally two, rarely rarely more than that.
My “workStation” is one of these VMs, generally also LEAP 15.4
Every now and again, my machine freezes.
Sound stops, mouse stops etc.
Therefore I’m assuming it’s not my VM --though it happens more often if I have multiple VMs – as the “Server” should still react to the mouse. Am I wrong with this assumption ?
It’s been happening since I stared with LEAP 15.2, through 15.3, and now 15.4
I don’t know where to begin looking so as to give y’all more/better information so y’all can help me fix this.
Thanks [larryr]
I suspect the same.
I think in looking at some log after the last crash was a comment “too slow” – may be related to what you’re talking about.
Any advice on what to look for that I may find what needs fixing?
Thanks again [larryr]
I’ll be heading down the MemTest86 path.
It has a 15.3 version, says it doesn’t have a 15.4 LEAP version, but there is repository info, so I’ll do a little more research before I proceed. Going away for a week-or-so, so it’ll be a bit before I give you my update.
Hi.
Took some time, but I’ve run the MemTest86, all clear, all good.
I’ve looked at the messages ASAP when I force shut down the system, then reboot. Nothing exciting, so anything remotely interesting, I’d do some more research and generally get a “this is nothing to worry about.”
I made sure YaST would give me a core dump etc.
None.
I’m mostly running the KVM, with only one VM (SuSE LEAP), occasionally two VMs (latest Ubuntu).
I don’t think it’s heat, as I feel the air being exhausted it’s almost cool (It’s winter and my office thermometer is generally 72-fahrenheit , and it’s just a couple of minutes to force shutdown the machine, then reboot, then I’m running OK, generally for days.
Any other suggestions of things to check, or monitoring software to install, etc.
