If you face choices. Look carefully for the option to let the package/s switch from openSUSE > packman

When done. Close the terminal. And open Yast > Software Management and Apply the Package Switcher on Packman.

Gnome: Example of Packman switch in Gnome

If you encounter dependency errors: Eg: Errors You need to accept changes that allow vendor switch to Packman If you can’t work it out. Ask in the forum.

IMPORTANT NOTES:**

  1. This multi-media install now separates kde and gnome. This should ensure a complete multi-media experience with the least difficulty.

  2. Please do not use the VideoLan repository!

  3. OneClick options will be available here: Restricted formats - openSUSE Community Wiki

Yes, indeed, openSUSE users are fortunate to have Carl’s help with the multimedia.

I have used the command line segments(kde) listed in the post to attempt to get my 42.2
installation to easily play DVDs. After the process, including the package switch to give
the Packman packages priority, the DVD play process is still tortuous, if it works at all.
One surprise is that, although vlc is installed (the Packman version), when I insert a DVD,
vlc is not an option that comes up for playing it. The only choice is DragonPlayer.
In examining the packages installed, I notice that some of the installed packages come
Packman, but some still come from OpenSuSE 42.2 Update. Examples include

gstreamer-plugins-good
gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good
gstreamer-0_10_plugins-good-extra
gstreamer-plugins-base
gstreamer-plugins-bad
gstreamer-plugins-good
gstreamer-plugins-good-extra

Software management says there are no Packman versions of these packages. Is this correct?

I also notice, using Software Management, that neither of the fluendo packages exist at
all. If I search on fluendo, I get only

gstreamer-fluendo-mp3
gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3
pullin-fluendo-mp3

none of which are installed. These are listed as coming from 42.2-Update-Non-Oss.

Suggestions?
