OpenSUSE Leap 42.1 questions/first time using.

I have few question about openSUSE Leap 42.1:

  1. How stable is it? Could you say it’s more stable than Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?
  2. Does it support wine and playonlinux?
  3. How is software compatibility/support in general, I intend to use Brackets, LAMP, Photoshop and Excel (PS and Excel worked in Ubuntu using wine/playonlinux), Opera, Chrome, Code::Blocks maybe, and such apps.
  4. How customizable is it (in terms of visual customization I mean)

PC:
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3GHz
4GB DDR2 ram
500GB storage
Radeon HD3300 iGPU

Thanks.

  1. It’s very stable it’s based on SLE12 which has a 10 year life span
  2. yes wine is available in the main repository, playonlinux not having as many users can be found in the extra games:tools repository
    http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/games:/tools/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/
  3. Win apps running wine do not depend on [FONT=Verdana]openSUSE if runs on wine it will run on wine on openSUSE, Chromium is available in the main repo, Code::Blocks can be found in an extra repo
    https://software.opensuse.org/package/codeblocks
generally if an app is not in the main repo search for it in the OBS repo’s
    https://software.opensuse.org/search
  4. Unlike Ubuntu openSUSE comes with dozens of different desktops not just gnome or plasma 5 but cinnamon, xfce, mate lxde, lxqt … and each can be customized
Extra plasma 5 customization can be found on http://kde-look.org/
Gnome 3 themes can be found http://gnome-look.org/
