Hi everyone.
I have been using windows 7 + OpenSUSE 13.1 (and then OpenSUSE 13.2) since 2014. Last week I bought a new 4TB hard disk, and I decide to install OpenSUSE LEAP 42.1 and windows 7 onto it, and I installed windows 7 first, then I left 80GB for OpenSUSE LEAP 42.1. Installation of OpenSUSE LEAP 42.1 was successful and I can enter every desktop environment (KDE xfce openbox ) except GNOME! Once I keyed my password and chose gnome in the login manager and click “login”, my mouse just turned a cross and after minutes or even hours, nothing happened.
By the way, my graphic card is GT640 and I have uninstalled and deleted noveau and installed the NVIDIA driver for it.
yoiu should not remove noveau that might break things, how did you install the nvidia driver, if you use the rpm it automaticly disables noveau
it sounds like you have some missing gnome packages
try reinstalling gnome-session it should pull all the needed packages
Thanks! Once I finished installing OpenSUSE LEAP 42.1 and I tried to log into Gnome but failed. Then I uninstalled noveau in YAST2, and added the repository of NVIDIA, and installed NVIDIA drivers, but still, I couldn’t enter GNOME.
Thanks a lot. I installed a lot GNOME related packages from YaST, and then keyed the code “zypper in gnome-session”. Now I can use GNOME Classic and GNOME.
