I’m thinking about buying a new computer with hardware listed below.
· Cooler Master Silencio 452
· ASUS H97-Plus
· Intel® Core i7-4790 3,6Ghz 8MB
· 32 GB 1600MHz
· 500GB SSD
· 2TB HDD 7200rpm
· Intel® HD Graphics
· VGA, DVI, HDMI
· 4x USB 3.0 & 4x USB 2.0
· DVD/CD Burner
· Card Reader
· HD Audio
Does anybody know if OpenSuSE Leap 42.1 can handle this hardware ?
I suppose i need to install a driver for the “ASUS H97-Plus” systemboard.
The “Intel HD Graphics” is integrated into the processor, is the video(card)
driver part of the systemboard driver or is it a separate driver and do i need to install this driver separately ?
Does anyone know where i can find these drivers, or does YAST install the drivers automatically when i setup the
system for the first time ?
Is there maybe an ASUS repository voor OpenSuSE Leap 42.1 ?
You have a pretty standard desktop PC :). I cannot vouch for ‘HD Audio’, and ‘Card Reader’ as those are just names PC vendors use for types of devices. For specific advice we would need specific models of those devices. I am assuming that since you have a 5th gen Intel Haswell i7 processor, the iGPU is most likely Intel HD Graphics 4600. It’s properly and fully (at least to my knowledge) supported by the Linux kernel and open-source Intel drivers.
Also, there is no such thing as a driver for a motherboard. A motherboard has a number of on-board devices and peripherals, which are/aren’t supported by Linux kernel modules (drivers). Since the motherboard isn’t exactly new (we have 6th gen Intel Skylake processors now), I think you should be fine :).
