OpenSuse Leap 15.0 - Via Labs IcyBox Hub does not allow to connect external hdds

USB 3.0 Hub (IcyBox IB-AC6702 from Via Labs, a Taiwanese Company) will not allow to connect external hard drives to OpenSuses Leap 15.0 (tested with 2,5 inch HDD from Toshiba)
Kernel-Version: 4.12.14-lp150.12.16-default - all current updates installed

The base System is self -made and uses an ASUS Hero VII main board. The external HDD does run without a glith when connected directly to a main board USB-plug (2.0 and 3.0 work). The funny thing is that USB-Flash memory sticks work with and without the Hub. My guess is that there is a time out (based on the reset entry in the kernel log - reset SuperSpeed USB device number 46 using xhci_hcd) which is the line that is different when trying to connect the HDD (I tried several hdd models). Just to make sure the hardware is working I connected the same hdds to a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional running computer (ASUS Hero VII based) which showed that the hdd is working in connection with the HUB.

Any help to make the HUB usable is highly appreciated. I can provide more information. If there is someone who can read the relevant kernel source code and can point me to the proper functions or lines might help me to hunt down the problem myself.

I attached the log-files that I think matter:

lsusb output (using an external USB-3.0 harddisk from Toshiba):

as said above the connection works without a glitch.

The difference in both scenarios is the kernel message

that does not appear if the connection works.

As I said in the German Subforum:
