Toshiba laptop with Celeron M CPU, 4 GB RAM and ATI Radeon X200M video.
I just downloaded the iso from Factory repo, checked md5 & sha hashes before burning to a DVD. First I use “nomodeset” as boot option for Live KDE. After hitting ENTER, the screen shows:
Welcome to openSUSE 12.2 “Mantis” Milestone4- kernel3.3.0-2-default
linux login: (blinking cursor)
After this, the screen was blank for a long time.
Second try: added “nomodeset”, “acpi=off” and “pnpbios=off” then chose to boot the first menu option: Live KDE. After the welcome screen, it took 3-5 minutes before the green Mantis flash screen appeared.
Had to configure wired connection in NM for static IP, then Kwallet before I can use the terminal to pre-select Grub2:
su -c "zypper install grub2"
Then the creen shows “grub2 is already installed”.
I hit the live installer icon but nothing seemed to happen; only the sound of spinning hard disk is present. The screen is gray with nothing but YAST2 as title, and the cursor is frozen.

FYI, starting with 12.2 MS3, setting the repos to use “factory” instead of
“distribution/12.2”, and running ‘zypper up’ resulted in update of ~1500
packages and a running 12.2 MS4 system.

I started with the KDE Live CD Build 0318 (MS3). I installed with it, then did
what I said above. The machine is real with an AMD Sempron CPU running at 2.7
GHz, and an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 graphics adapter. Nouveau works
fine on it - nomodeset is not needed.
Last month I installed 12.2 MS3 Build 0318 GNOME, but because of my old laptop the desktop environment reverts from Gnome 3 to Gnome Classic. Earlier today I burned a Cd from the same build but with KDE and installed 12.2 in the same partition. Installation went relatively smoothly without needing nomodeset at the beginning. I saw bootloader called Grub2 during the early part of installation but near the end the screen shows some error messages about not finding some Grub2 directories. I then remembered you said before installation one needs to go to the Terminal of the Live CD to specify Grub2. Anyway, it was late so I chose legacy Grub instead.
Now I got some questions for you about changing repos from “distribution/12.2” to “factory”:
1.What about the names of the repos after above change was made? Do they change automatically or do I need to make manual changes? I noticed that as soon as I changed the non-oss repo the screen shows user agreement document about 12.2 Milestone 4. Hurray!
Do I also need to change 12.2 Source repo?
Anyway, I took a chance and did the same revision to the Source repo. Zypper up results in 1146 files being downloaded.
I have not set up wireless because I don’t know yet if “firmware-b43-installer” is already included like b43-fwcutter, and which repo has this firmware. I just saw that Packman repo mirror was down. I intend to go with b43 this time, on 12.2.
Please let me know if I did anything wrong and advise me of improvements suggested.

You should always read http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_12.2_dev, which has 2
workarounds. You used #1. Fixup #2 is to ‘zypper in grub2’. It is not on the CD.

Changing the source repo will depend on whether you need any packages from that
one. Kernel source is in the oss repo.

The version of fwcutter and the installer are the same as on 12.1, and even the
11.4 one would work in most cases. If /lib/firmware/b43 contains files, you are
OK. Never forget that the driver will complain in the dmesg output if the
firmware cannot be found.
So, I prefer to wait until openSUSE 12.2 M4 is released formally. Do we have an idea when that might be? I also read somewhere that kernel 3.4 will be moved to openSUSE 12.2. Has anyone heard that rumor by chance?

I have not heard anything about kernel 3.4, which will likely be released in
about 2 weeks. Switching to it would match what has been done in the past.
Coolo is probably going to skip MS4 and release MS5/Beta next. That is scheduled
for May 24.
Thats good, i have heard that kernel 3.4 has some improvements for 64bit architecture regarding the use of memory for 32bit apps and native 64 bit app`s.
Yes Daniel i know that topic, but i`m waiting for openSUSE 12.2 to have the nvidia driver in the 12.2 nvidia repo because i kind of hate the way the driver installs manually.
