My department at work has budget available and I’m considering attending the OpenSuSE conference in Nurnberg at the end of May. Unfortunately, my german is very rusty and I’m not sure how much of the content/sessions I’ll be able to participate in.
Any thoughts, advice?

I first had a look at the information about the conference.
As I thought is is called “openSUSE Conference 2017”. (not OpenSuSE or any other camel back combination).

All (or at least most) talks do have English titles and I guess the talks will be in English (German speaker or not).
Of course, between the session you will hear much German when people relax and discuss. But I assume they will switch to English (not without accents) when they find out you want to participate.

Almost all of the talks will be in English. If last year in Nuremberg is anything to go by, only about 3 or 4 hours out of the dozens of hours of sessions were in German.
All of my talks will be in English, my German is probably worse than yours and I live here.

Am giving it a miss this year again. In Germany, two words get you anywhere and everywhere: Gutentag and Willkommen.

Please correct me if I’m wrong and I enjoy German’s efficient penchant for word concatenation, but isn’t Gutentag' supposed to be two words (i.e. Guten Tag’)?
Correct.
But with so many SUSE friends, I assume that “Hallo” is quite correct also.
