I’ve been using Suse Studio for some time, and have worked out the basic parts of my openSUSE distro. I’d like to download it to my computer, make changes, install updates, applications, etc, then make a Live CD of it that I could distribute. I know something like Remastersys exists for Debian, but is there any alternative for openSUSE? I’ve searched around but to no avail. I don’t want to use KIWI because I’m on a metered internet connection and also because KIWI isn’t as flexible as doing it from scratch myself.

Why not run in test drive, make your changes etc and save those? You can add (I would assume it’s automatically added) any repository on OBS… then re-create you live CD as required for publishing in the gallery if required.

Well there is always the Open Build Service, but creating images there
uses kiwi. You can upload your changed files into SUSE Studio? Short of
installing your own SUSE Studio and/or OBS appliance, I guess you could
create as a VM as a basis and maybe find someone to collaborate with to
help on SUSE Studio to create your appliance?

I know I could do all that, but I would just like to take a snapshot of my local hard drive and make it into a Live Disk without having to connect to Suse Studio (my connection is a bit flaky). Its easier than finding the modified file on my local VM, then uploading it to Suse Studio.

your local hard drive contains a system which is not only exactly as
you have decorated it, but also it is specific to the hardware it
is installed on (choices about drivers used and configurations file
settings are automatically made during the install process)…
if you could just push a button and make a live disk from that
installed system, it might run fine on the same machine, but very
unlikely it would run with any stability (if at all) on any other
machine.
