openSUSE and Xfce 4.12 Update

Hey guys.

Any of you updated to Xfce 4.12? What’s the verdict? Any issues, dealbreakers?

Kind regards,

Running it since day 1 of the release.

Same with 4.10 with additional features, bling-blings, prettier and faster.

Oh yass, upgraded, and it’s great!

Some really nice additional features, and menu editing is back :good:

Kewl!!
If you like having different wallpaper every workspace, it’s now supported.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to jump on this thread, but just wondering on the best way to upgrade XFCE to 4.12?

Many thanks in advance.

The one I hppe to see is gnome 3.16 but it has not even hit tumbleweed yet, I like to see that new notifications system.
Its a feature i have been hungry for in gnome for some time now.

It has.
It is in Tumbleweed since about a week. See http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2015-04/msg00031.html.

XFCE 4.12 is part of Tumbleweed too.
To upgrade to 4.12 in 13.2, add the repo and make a full repo switch I’d say:

sudo zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/xfce/openSUSE_13.2/ XFCE
sudo zypper dup --from XFCE

If you use 13.1, replace “openSUSE_13.2” with “openSUSE_13.1” in the above command.

You can also add the repo using YaST->Software Repositories, and then switch with YaST->Software Management.
See here:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update#Full_repository_Vendor_change

I’m also currently updating, running

sudo zypper dup --from XFCE

switches to the never 4.12 repo from 4.10 right?

Yes as long as XFCE is your new repo. You can check that with

~ # zypper lr
