I have install openSUSE in a vm on XP. I have root access but when I try running Guest Additions within Virtualbox I get an error stating “This program must run with administration privileges. Aborting”
Anyone have any ideas?

That terminology indicates that the message originates from XP, not Linux.
I suspect you will have to run it from an admin logon session XP in XP.
Check the VirtualBox web site for readme files related to XP as the host -
they have a pretty good tech info section there.
