I think it is pretty good, I haven’t had any lockups, crashes, errors of any kind since I upgraded from 4.0.4 to 4.2
and is 4.2 in the “factory” repo or in the normal ones?
I’m running Factory (KDE 4.2 & Gnome / x86 & X86_64) on both my laptop & desktop, and…
KDE 4.2 has been totally stable!
And, I might add, it’s G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!!
The bad thing is… it makes Gnome look pathetic, which was my favorite until last week!
If you decide to run Factory, just make sure you update it daily. This is how I do it:
sudo zypper ref
sudo zypper lu
sudo zypper up
I find that this works a lot better/faster than doing it via YAST…
Factory
kde 4.2 is VERY stable here on 11.0. Not a single crash/lockup for weeks now (been using 4.2rc1 before)
Have a read of this Howto install KDE 4.2 on openSUSE « The Blog is Hot
thanks to all the people who have helped, really appreciate it
but isn’t the factory repo supposed to be the “unstable” repo?
meaning that i’ll be getting unstable updates for my KDE 4.2
by the way,i’m going to install it on 11.1 NOT 11.0
does that make any difference, like not having to enable factory to get KDE 4.2
thanks again
Yes. It’s updated frequently so when you install it may not work, or be installable even. You should be prepared to try again later.
No difference, so far KDE 4.2 is in Factory with subversions for each distro release, not in a product repo, with subdirectories rpm’s built for different releases.
Once you have a version that works for you, you should disable the repo, to avoid getting updates.
I tried the Live CD, and came across an issue where desktop froze, after trying to login to a website (Konqi problem).
i don’t use konqueror anyway,neither as a browser,nor as a file manager
thanks 4 the advice
So far KDE 4.2 on opensuse has been rock solid :good:
I tried KDE 4.2 on Kubuntu but found less stable.
Kubuntu is the WORST KDE experience i’ve ever had,to be honest
they say the best with KDE is opensuse, and i’m trying to give it a shot
