What home user things can’t OpenSUSE handle?
I know that webcams are a pain. Thats that only thing that comes to mind but wanted to know you guys take, cause I’m new to OpenSUSE. Ubuntu did everything but I needed a change.
It will do almost everything you need for home use depending on your requirements. Most webcams work OOTB with the latest kernelunless you have obscure model

In other words, your mileage may vary. Best thing is to try it
and see if it works for you. I’ve tried it many times over the
years at home, just never seems to fit well there. It’s perfect
at work.

That’s a loaded question. What “can’t” openSUSE do? Really simple.
It can’t be a 100% stand-in clone of Microsoft Windows XP or the
lesser Vista.
With anything openSUSE wise, you’ll want to do due diligence in
researching what hardware (in particular) will work with it.
Can it handle 100% of what a “home” user needs to do… Absolutely,
my family uses openSUSE.
If you’re nice to your install it’ll clean your dishes & give you a manicure!rotfl!
or the
lesser Vista.
I have to agree with this cjcox
I just removed Vista from my new laptop. It really was no use at all. Installed OS11 - works like a charm, out of the box, wireless, video, everything.
Back to ? raised.
OS11 can do a whole heap more than M$. Though M$ has it’s place and XP is certainly a good product. Just not in my home.

Depends on the webcam. Mine works fine.
Just go ahead and try it. The only area where Linux IMHO really sucks is games. Yes, there are a couple of native Linux games, yes, you can play some Windows games using wine/Cedega, but it isn’t worth the hassle as long as you have a Windows license.

Most home user things are handled well by opensuse, as previous posters have mentioned. Certain wireless cards can still be troublesome (though that is improving rapidly) and certain printers can be a pain (though there always seems to be some sort of workaround found).
Remote access to work is sometimes an issue-- though from the IBM logo in the initial poster’s avatar I’m guessing that won’t be an issue at all, since I used openSuse to access ibm internal and external networks with no issues to speak of.
I haven’t been able to get my mic working with OpenSUSE 11. Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 had no problem with it. I may be going back if it I can’t get it to work. If I could get that to work on my Thinkpad T60.
vwbond, how about starting new thread(s) and specifying the problem(s) clearly?
