openSUSE advantages ...?

Hello, I’m a Ubuntu user and professional programmer.

I need primary support for these languages:

1- Java //most support
2- C/C++
3- Python
4- HTML / CSS
5- JavaScript
6- PHP

I need to know if openSUSE have a good support for items above, have a good and stable Internet management, and have compatibility with a lot of hardware drivers.

I’m not interested in media players, graphical editors, etc.

I need a OS to develop softwares.
May I change Ubuntu for openSUSE?

Thanks from now.

What did you imply while saying “primary support” ? If it is about whether these languages will run smoothly on openSUSE or not, then I would any linux distro will be able to do it provided necessary packages are installed. The repositories are very rich here as well.

I think network management and hardware compatibility is great as well in openSUSE.

Certainly you can change Ubuntu for openSUSE  But if it is only development you are looking for Archlinux would probably the best bet (Though a steeper initial configuration ;))

“primary support” = ease and compatible to install IDE’s and packages for the language development.

Thanks for reply.

Have a look in http://software.opensuse.org/search for the tools you’re
interested in installing. If they’re part of the standard repository,
then they’re there - but if they’re not in the standard repos, you may
still find some that will install just fine from there.

Personally, I find that openSuSE is great for programming, even if I only use Perl.
There are many IDEs, runtimes, etc. in the repositories. YaST2 is your friend for that
And if it’s not in the standard repositories, no worries, just look it up on the rest of the internet, chances are high that you will find an RPM, or even a “1-Click Installer”(which makes things even easier to install), containing just what you need.

But if you like Ubuntu, that’s cool too, although I feel it is more centered towards media.

Cheers!

Thank you very much.

I develop in HTML/PHP/MYSQL/Javascript without any problems. You will find that anything you use on Ubuntu is there for openSUSE. Maybe even more

Thanks for reply.

wiki software is a notable exception.
