After upgrading to 42.1 (fresh install) and installing some extra applications, Kdenlive being one of them, dosen’t start.
In 13.2 was working well but in Leap is not.
Anyone with this problem?
There are also some other issues like VLC (2 windows opening) but i saw a thread already on that.
I will submit fixed libmlt and frei0r-plugins packages as soon as possible (already prepared them, but OBS still needs some time to build them), and hope that we can get them out as update for Leap as well.
(although you should get them via Packman in any case)
Well, I will definitely submit the packages as soon as they are built, and will hopefully have them accepted in the devel repo in the next days.
But if we are talking about an official update for Leap, it will normally be a bit more than a week.
For Packman, no idea. AFAIK they branch from Factory, so that depends on the review process. Next week, I suppose, if there are no problems.
If they branch from multimedia:libs (the devel repo), it will be sooner, a few days I suppose (depending on how long it will take for the maintainers to accept them, but they are quite fast normally IME).
If you need to use kdenlive now, you can take the KDE4 package from the repo I mentioned in the KDE forums thread for now.
FYI, Packman does have the new libmlt for Leap since a few hours.
So if you want to switch back to kdenlive 15.08.1 as shipped with Leap, you can now.
One problem still exists though: frei0r-plugins is still built against Qt4, and will crash kdenlive/libmlt. So uninstall it in that case if you have it installed (it’s only recommended).
An official update for this will hopefully be released in a week or so though.

When i realized that there was an update, after updating, kdenlive stoped working but i managed to make it start again but still using kde 4.14.10. Before all this, at some point at statup it asked me the locations of the “mlt” profiles, after selecting the location, it crashed after starting. But now works
Hello, I have remove frei0r-plugins packages (and openShot, of course) and Kdenlive starts well.
I have experienced the same issue regarding mtl profiles location. It is due to mlt instead of mlt-6 at path.
There should be no need to remove openShot…
It is Qt5 based as well AFAIK.
I want to mention again that I have submitted Qt5-based frei0r-plugins as update for Leap, the update will be released in about a week and everything should be fine then.

The frei0r-plugins in Leap do work with the KDE4 version of kdenlive (0.9.8), but in this case you’d need a libmlt built against Qt4.
Packman already has the one for Qt5.
At the moment you have basically two options:
use kdenlive 15.08.1 included in Leap with libmlt from Packman and remove frei0r-plugins
use kdenlive 0.9.8 from my repo with the libmlt and frei0r-plugins shipped with Leap (although I offer an ffmpeg-enabled libmlt in my repo too)
I managed to make it work and the new updates are also working well
Which “new updates” do you mean?
They haven’t been released yet.
Some libmlt updates were installed today when i started my laptop. I can’t tell you the other ones cause i don’t remember but if there is a terminal command that shows that info i can post here.
Well, if you installed the one from Packman, it’s quite usual to often get updates (e.g. ffmpeg has been updated to 2.8.2 which causes all dependent packages including libmlt to be rebuilt).
With that one you have to use kdenlive 15.08 (and uninstall frei0r-plugins for now), the KDE4 version will crash.
I was speaking about the official updates for Leap, those haven’t been released yet.
So the frei0r-plugins will still crash kdenlive 15.08.
If you’d want/need frei0r-plugins, you could get the updated package from the update-test repo already though.
For libmlt it’s better to stick to the Packman version, this is built with ffmpeg support (although the official update will have that too), and is kept up-to-date if a newer version is being released.
Just a heads-up:
The update has been released today, everything should work fine with the standard packages now, even if you install frei0r-plugins.
As a bonus, the updated libmlt in the standard update repo is now also built with ffmpeg support.
You might still prefer the Packman version though, as that one additionally has vidstab support which is missing in the openSUSE version due to legal uncertainties. And you likely need the uncrippled ffmpeg/libav* from Packman anyway.
Oh, and a kdenlive (and in fact the whole KDE Applications) update to 15.08.3 has been released as well for Leap 42.1 today.
I noticed a big update today but funny is that it dosen’t start…
I made a full, clean install yesterday because, before i was testing everything in Leap for what i normally used in 13.2 (was/is ultra stable).
To be quick, at the moment i have these packages installed: kdenlive 15.08.3 from opensuse, with libmlt++3, libmlt6, libmlt6-data, libmlt6-modules, all 0.9.8-64.1 from packman (the ones from opensuse are 0.9.8-7.1) and frei0r-plugins 1.4-7.1. Even without frei0r-plugins, crashes after startup.
If that doesn’t help, please run kdenlive in a terminal window (Konsole e.g.) and have a look (or post) the output.
And/or try with a fresh user account respectively delete kdenlive’s config files ~/.kde4/share/config/kdenliverc and ~/.config/kdenliverc.
(Haven’t used your repo yet after fresh install…)
You shouldn’t have to.
Actually this repo is meant to have KDE4 and Plasma5 (and the accompanying applications) installed at the same time.
But I haven’t even tested it myself on Leap yet…
I only suggested it as a workaround because I happened to have a KDE4 based kdenlive in there as well.
Ok so i tried to do a full switch to the packman repo but libmlt was already in packman version, so kdenlive and frei0r-plugins stayed in the suse repo 'cause there’s no packman version (at least it diden’t show any)
then i removed ~/.config/kdenliverc only because i couldn’t find ~/.kde4/share/config/kdenliverc.
What i noticed was after installing everything kdenlive runs, If i close and start again it crashes. Removing ~/.config/kdenliverc makes it run again but if i click on the “Monitor clip”/“Project Monitor” tabs, it crashes. I need to force quit to kdenlive to close… Other thing is, every time i start the program, always asks me to check the startup options like profiles, save folders, etc, but when i get to select the hardware selection for the camera, nothing shows up…

Yes, that’s the config file from the KDE4 version. If you never ran that, the file won’t exist.

How do i start kdenlive from terminal…
Run a terminal emulator (Konsole e.g.) and type in “kdenlive”.
No it dosen’t work but when it starts crashes when i click/move project/clip monitors.
My graphics card is an Intel and before my fresh install kdenlive was working fine with your repo.
