Not having any luck on figuring out what replaces ypbind and nis client in opensuse 16.
We have a small group of users and workstations where logging into other users workstations to run analysis jobs is normal practice.
Need to have a seamless transition from 15.6 to 16.
Any pointers would be very helpful.
Thank you in advance.

It looks to me ypbind is not (yet) outdated, the problem seems to be that the ypbind package is not build for 16.0.
I see there is a 16.0 package so it should not be a problem to get it build but it is no official package.
Likely best to create a ticket on https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/ so 16.0 gets added.

After more digging found this discussion about deprecating NIS. So now have to decide if compiling ypbind is worth the future maintenance or the learning curve migrating to a new authentication scheme.
It sucks to lose something that just works but they make good points as to why it should be deprecated.
