openSUSE 15.6 and KDE

Hi everyone. I have been using Leap 15.6 since its alpha release. So almost 1 year. I had a lot of problems with the packman repository until a few months ago. Now it seems really excellent to me. My favorite desktop is KDE which I customize a bit for my needs. I have 2 TW with KDE and XFCE and 3 Leap 15.6 installations: 2 in DE KDE and one XFCE. All 5 in virtualbox with windows host. In bare metal in an old laptop I have a dual boot TW KDE and Leap 15.6 XFCE. Now my problem: the TW has always worked well with KDE while the Leap 15.6 KDE created various crashes with kernel irq errors. I should add that Fedora 39 KDE was also giving me exactly the same problems in the 3/4 months of testing. So, in your opinion, why TW and SlowRoll work great with KDE but not Leap 15.6? In the end, to get around the problems I use XFCE but I still have doubts/curiosities…

Leap, Tumbleweed and Slowroll use different KDE and kernel versions…so a little bit like comparing apples and peaches.

If you have reproducible crashes with Leap, you should report them on bugzilla. There are no reports in the forums regarding problems with Leap together with Plasma. Tumbleweed users are more prone to some issues as the latest software versions pose more risk for small instabilitys.

Hi @hui
You are absolutely right about the current situation. But my old laptop installed TW 14 months ago for the first time and never gave me these kernel irq errors. The first TW installations were probably at Leap’s current level…
In the meantime I would like to thank you for your reply. I am, as mentioned on other occasions, an openSUSE user and due to work and private life I am not very useful for testing with systems. It seems selfish but I use what, for me, is the best OS for my work purposes which are far from the IT world. Thank you very much
