[opensuse 13.2] packman repository down ??

Greetings !!

It’s three days now that the software manager, the updater sends notifications telling the repository packman/essentials could not be reach.

I observed it since tuesday on every computers in the lab’: some 11.3, some 12.2 and some 13.2.

I disabled on all computers the essentials and multimedia repositories for packman but I wanted to know if the situation is definitive and in this case which mirror we should add to the repository list ?

I’ve noticed this too yesterday, both for 13.1 and 13.2 repos.

Edit: not the essentials, the main repo. The smaller ones are just links to different subsets of the main repo, I think.

Can’t get through to Tumbleweed packman either.

You could try
http://packman.jacobs-university.de/suse/openSUSE_13.2/
adjust as required for your OS version

You fail to explain which Packman mirror you use. This one works for me:

http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/packman/suse/openSUSE_13.2/

inode is down

I just noticed that the packman.inode.at mirror is up again and working.

Today Packman it’s alive again!! without setup different mirrors…

Hm. Unfortunately it seems to be down again… :stuck_out_tongue:

No, it isn’t.

It was when I posted this.

Meanwhile the server is still reachable (it wasn’t yesterday), but you get a “Connection refused” error…

It was here as well, but not for long, then unreachable again (spinning cursor), and now at least the message (connection refused). I added alternative mirror for two repos, and found just one very minor update, for all that <shrug>.

yep, down again!! :frowning:

It’s not crucial but strange… it’s the first time I got such issues with repositories :}

I’ve seen this on and off a few times the past > 10 years since I’ve been using an openSUSE (or SuSE-Pro) variant. The ‘trick’ for me has always been to recognize it is a repository being down, and not some problem with my package manager software. One would think it obvious, but typically Murphy’s law says I encounter this when I am in a rush for some reason, and I don’t spend adequate time to diagnose the problem - hence for a brief time I have misdirected concerns about my package management software functionality.

Fortunately such does not happen often, and in this case with Packman there were work arounds with an alternative repository.

After all these years Packman still doesn’t use MirrorBrain or even a rudimentary round-robin DNS.

Not… very professional if you ask me.

I don’t remember when Packman left a mirror down and listed for so many days. Perhaps “they” are not using any brain as there was no apparent news about it on their home page. After all the Austrian mirror is first in their list and arguably the most popular one for Europe at least. Whether “professionals” or more likely volunteers, IMO they should have communicated the issue as soon as possible because outages are so rare.

Greetings,

I have the inode essentials/multimedia repos configured in my system (13.2). How do I switch to a different repo without either screwing up my system or reinstalling from scratch? Never ran into this problem before.

TIA!

Yast –> Software Repositories.

Select the packman repo. Click edit. Change the URL.

I’m planning to wait another day or two, but if packman.inode.at doesn’t start working soon, I’ll have to make the same change.

Will this leave the software intact? By this I mean that I switched the installed software to the packman repo. Will changing the URL leave my software configuration intact or will it revert everything it can back to the opensuse repos and orphan everything else?

Thanks!
