I’ve got Samsung Ativ Book 8 at work. I’ve used OpenSuse 12.2, 12.3 and 13.1 on it without issues. I’ve tried upgrading to 13.2 and it just was unusable. I’ve now moved back to 13.1, but I wonder if anyone else had these issues and maybe have a solution.
- screen brightness control dosn’t work with kernel 3.16. The info I could found suggests that only solution is to downgrade to kernel 3.14.
- First time round I’ve tried to upgrade straight from 13.1 to 13.2 online, then I tried installing 13.2 from DVD and keep my home partition and then I have tried clean install, but I’ve been experiencing KDE session termination issues, i.e. as if Ctrl+Alt+Backspace was pressed; all applications get closed, unsaved content lost and logon screen displayed.
2.1 After upgrading, KDE session would terminate when opening Kontact, Kmail, VirtualBox, SpiderOak (only when displaying application window, having it running in the background is fine)
2.2 I assumed that something when wrong with the upgrade, so I did install from DVD and kept home partition. Now Spideroak issue remains and hitting Alt+F2 and entering = and a digit kills KDE session. On top of that, going to any website (FireFox, Chrome, Konqueror) in .ru domain kills KDE session.
2.3 So I did clean install, to be sure. SpiderOak still terminates KDE session. Haven’t tried the rest of the stuff as I need the laptop for work, I’ve reinstalled OpenSuse 13.1
And then I’ve installed OpenSuse 13.2 on Acer Aspire 5735 and everything works fine. Even after I’ve copied backup of my home partition into Acer, everything worked fine: screen brightness control, SpiderOak, .ru domains, Alt+F2 calculations.
